Dussehra : The Celebration of Good over Evil.

As the festival of Colours and Joy has just came to an end, but the festive season haven’t just over, just after the celebration of Navratri, Another most important and significant festival is being celebrated all over the country. The festival which is celebrated on the 10th day of Navaratri is known as “Dussehra”, the word has a very strong meaning with a strong significance of celebrating it all over the country.
The word Dussehra is derived from 2 Hindi words “Dus” and “Hara” which clearly states the defeat of Dus (10) headed Ravana by Lord Rama, And therefore it is also celebrated as the victory of Good over Evil. As it is celebrated all over the country, it is being called by different names but the significance of celebrating it remains the same, Dussehra is also called as “Dasara”, “Vijayadashami” and others.

Reason behind the celebration :
The origin of this particular festival comes from the Hindu Epic “Ramayana” where the 8th Avatar of Lord Vishnu who is known as “Ram” defeats “Ravana” who abducted Sita who was wife of Ram. Therefore the festival is also celebrated as the victory of Good over Evil. Lord Rama was accompanied by his younger brother Laxman and his follower Lord Hanuman with a troop of monkeys to the Lanka (kingdom of ravana) in order to take back his wife Sita and defeated him. On the way of Lanka, Ram took the blessings from Goddess Durga, and finally at thwe end he defeats Ravana and conquer Evil and to celebrate this victory of Goodness Vijayadashami is being celebrated across the country.
As India is known for the celebration of festivals to its fullest, Dussehra is also being clebrated in a magnificent way, the festival is celebrated in many different ways across the country. the most popular way to celebrate the occasion is “Ramlila” people act the Wole Ramlila in front of audiences as the Nukkad Natak and at the nd of the Natak The dummy of Ravana is being burnet in order to signify that there is always victory of Good over Evil.
In this country with so many cultures and traditions this festival is being celebrated in different forms across the different parts of the country. People wish each other and pray to the god for the same and celebrate the festival by distributing sweets, if taking particularly about Gujarat’s way of celebrating Dussehra, people tend to celebrate the occasion by eating “Jalebi Fafda” a famous and the most loved delicacies of locals a very good combination of namkeen and sweet, is their first preference to break the fast they have kept in all these 9 days of Navaratri.
